Not heating
On an electric cooker, a failed element, thermostat or selector switch. On gas, a burner that won’t stay lit or a faulty oven thermostat.
Before we arrive: Note whether it’s the oven, grill or hob, and whether the cooker runs on gas, electricity or both.
Ignition fault
Damp or dirty burners, a worn ignition switch, spark generator or electrode, or a gas safety device.
Before we arrive: Don’t keep trying to light it. If you smell gas, call the National Gas Emergency line on 0800 111 999.
Control fault
Switches, wiring, sensors, the timer or the control board itself.
Before we arrive: Note any error code or flashing lights. A photo of the display helps.
Another fault
A hob ring stuck on full, a grill that won’t switch off, a door that won’t close or an unusual smell.
Before we arrive: If you smell gas, turn the cooker off and call 0800 111 999. Otherwise, note what it’s doing and when.
